Why Colouring Book's Are Great For Children

Updated: Nov 10

Robbie the robin on the front page of The Scary Noise colouring book

We created The Scary Noise colouring book for several great reasons:

Compliments 'The Scary Noise' storybook

Colouring the characters from the storybook helps children explore the story, the relationships and the meanings in the story further.

Pedro the bat hanging upside down

Pedro reminisces of when he lived in the castle. This is a theme for Pedro throughout the story.

Pedro the bat talks to his friend Robbie the robin

Robbie listens intently, whilst Pedro hangs upside down.

Helps children colour in

The colouring book is designed with simple pictures to help children colour within the lines. We’ve left plenty of space for children to add their own design and colours around the pictures.

Robbie the robin in a flap because of 'the scary noise'

Robbie is in a terrible flap as he is afraid of the scary noise.

Pedro is keeping his cool and thinking of solutions to the scary sound of Boom pah pah, Rap pah pah!

Helps children recognise colours

By referring to the storybook children can learn about and explore colours. Robbie is red and brown. Pedro is grey.

Claws swimming in the ocean

Claws is a lobster, he is orange.

The ocean is blue.

The starfish is yellow.

Helps children with numbers and basic anatomy

There is a fun quiz throughout the colouring book and some of the questions ask ‘how many?’

Nessie swimming in the ocean

Nessie has 4 flippers.

Nessie is Claws's friend.

Helps children learn new words

Robbie is a Robin, Pedro is a Bat, Claws is a Lobster and Bubbles is an Octopus.

Mouse enjoying playing his trumpet

What instrument is Mouse playing? – a trumpet.

Helps children’s concentration

Colouring in is an activity with a single focus. This can be a relaxing experience for children and helps develop patience.

Helps prepare children for writing

Colouring helps develop the hand and eye co-ordination and fine motor skills required for writing. We have included lines and curved shapes to support this.

It’s fun!

Especially when mum, dad, granny, grandpa or an older brother/sister joins in. Joining in helps children learn how to colour in. Talking about the pictures and colours also helps with language development. This type of play helps with building confidence, especially when children are praised for their art work.
