Hi! We're Mike and Linda, an Edinburgh-based writer and illustrator team and the creators of Follow The Creatures.

Mike

My academic journey began at the University of Edinburgh with an MA (Hons) in Religion and Social Policy, exploring ethics, morals, and the human experience, before I qualified as a secondary teacher with a Post Graduate Certificate in Secondary Education.  Yet what I've always loved most - and what I'm especially good at - is spinning stories. I delight in weaving playful, imaginative adventures for young children, threaded with soft lessons on friendship, kindness, and understanding big emotions. My tales aim to wrap little readers in warmth, spark their wonder, and leave them feeling seen and supported.

Linda

Linda Stark, co-creator of Follow the Creatures children's storybooks and YouTube videos

I began my professional life as a qualified nurse and later graduated from Queen Margaret University with a BSc (Hons) in Health Studies and a Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Education. Over the years I worked in diverse and challenging settings—from the fast pace of Accident & Emergency to managing healthcare in prisons, substance misuse services, and mental health environments. I also enjoyed running a small life coaching practice.  Now happily retired, I pour my compassion, curiosity, and deep love of animals into creating enchanting storybook characters and worlds. Bringing these creatures to life feels like the perfect next chapter - turning sketches into friends that children (and adults) can cherish.

Our Creatures

Joolz the bear having a tea party with her friends, Pedro the bat, Claws the lobster, Bubbles the octopus and Robbie the robin

Together, we've created five unlikely, but special friends.

They stick together through silly mishaps, little adventures, and everyday mix‑ups that don’t quite go to plan.

Our calm, character‑led stories and songs focus on friendship, loyalty, and looking out for each other.

Perfect for families who want soft, heart‑warming stories about teamwork and finding joy in imperfect days with your favourite people by your side. 🐻🐙🦇 🦞 🐦

We pour heart and care into every tale, hoping to bring a little calm, connection, and wonder to children and their grown-ups.

Social Media

We recently launched our dedicated kids' YouTube channel, Follow The Creatures Too, featuring gentle animated stories.

Alongside this, our main social media presence—on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube—operates under Follow The Creatures. Here, Mike (aka Mr. G) plays the loving, long-suffering dad to five opinionated puppets: Joolz, Bubbles, Pedro, Claws, and Robbie.

As the patient, slightly world-weary, but endlessly affectionate father figure, Mr. G shepherds this chaotic crew through life's ups and downs. While the creatures ride the wild rollercoaster of big emotions, he’s the steady hand on the safety bar—often with a raised eyebrow and a perfectly timed deadpan remark.

He guides them (and us) through messy moments with infinite patience (the kind only a parent who's just stepped on a Lego can truly understand), blending warmth, wisdom, dry humour, and the occasional groan-worthy dad joke.

This dual approach lets us support both children's emotional growth and parents' need for light-hearted, relatable entertainment. Come join the family!
